Great Ocean Ecolodge Book Now
The Great Ocean Ecolodge is a magnificent multi award-winning environmentally sustainable guest house within the grounds of The Cape Otway Centre for Conservation Ecology. Adjoining the Great Otway National Park and close to the Great Ocean Walk, the Ecolodge is certified as an Advanced Ecotourism destination.
The Ecolodge has only five bedrooms, so your visit will be
unique and personal, particularly if you choose to book the Ecolodge exclusively. Your bedroom is private and peaceful, furnished with a comfortable bed, crisp clean linen, and timeless antiques and your ensuite bathroom is equipped with fluffy towels and an assortment of locally made natural soaps and shampoos. From every window the views over the Otway Ranges or kangaroo meadows are breathtaking and the dawn chorus is magical. For availability please refer to our calendar.
Our wonderful chefs create magnificent feasts from fresh regional produce, much of it grown in the Ecolodge's own kitchen garden. Breakfast and dinner are served in the Great Hall and are always a wonderful occasion. You may choose to dine together at the massive dining table, or more intimately.
The wild kangaroos often gather nearby to graze in the early mornings and evenings. Watching the young bucks play-fighting and the does tending their joeys is a very special experience. The Great Ocean Ecolodge is fully licensed and offers a range of superb wines from wineries in the Otways and beyond.
Powered entirely by the sun, and designed with passive solar principles, the Ecolodge collects its water from the skies and leaves an almost imperceptible footprint upon the earth. You will enjoy the hot showers and the glow of the reading light so much more, knowing that they are environmentally sound!
Ecology Experiences, exclusive to Great Ocean Ecolodge guests, offer outstanding opportunities for observing kangaroos, koalas and indigenous wild animals in their natural habitat (complete details are included in the Ecology Experiences Program). The Nature Studies Room and the Library are wonderful resources for checking on sightings and catching up on the finer points of natural history.
All our staff are qualified ecologists or have an interest in sustainable living and organic gardening - we enjoy sharing our knowledge and experiences with guests and will be delighted to discuss your interests.
