~ An everlasting tribute to the life of a loved one ~

In the natural world, after droughts come quenching rains, and after wild storms come warm sunny days. After the ravages of a bushfire comes new growth, and after death we see new life.

People view the natural world as a celebration of life, offering solace, calm and daily renewal. Increasingly our guests have asked us if we would accept donations from people looking for a worthwhile and natural memorial for their loved ones.

After much thought, and with help from a number of people who have chosen to remember special people in this way, we have established The Cape Otway Centre for Conservation Ecology Foundation, a registered charity and public fund which enables people to donate to our work in honour of a loved one who has passed away.

It may be that the person you wish to remember loved the wild diversity of the Australian bush. They may have enjoyed walking in the forests, listening to the birds, or down by the beach, looking for special stones and shells washed in on the tide. Perhaps they delighted in spotting that elusive bird, or that dozing koala, or maybe they eagerly anticipated the arrival of the exquisite orchids each spring. They probably loved sharing all these with friends or grand children, knowing that if they could pass on their love of nature, then the world would be safe in the hands of following generations.

Would you like to preserve the memory of a much loved person, while ensuring the future of the natural environment at Cape Otway?

You can choose from a range of planned projects, or you may prefer to nominate a particular project. Or you can decide to let us direct your gift to wherever it is needed most.

We are extremely grateful for all donations, however large or small.

As a token of our appreciation we can include a brief biography of your loved one in our Book of Remembrance which is on permanent display in the Great Ocean Ecolodge at the Cape Otway Centre. We will also send you a framed copy as a keepsake.

~ Bequests, a wonderful way to help Nature flourish in the future ~

A bequest will honour your memory and remind the world of your ideals. Your ongoing support plays a vital role in protecting this fragile environment, and the indigenous flora and fauna which inhabit it.

We are extremely grateful for all donations and bequests and solemnly undertake to carefully follow all requests and stipulations in using any money donated to The Cape Otway Centre Foundation. A Board of Governors oversees the Fund and all payments are subject to their scrutiny.

~ Why your donation or bequest is so helpful ~

The Cape Otway Centre responds directly to the major environmental problems facing the planet, including the greenhouse effect and the destruction of biodiversity. We do this not by preaching or instruction but through research and by education, example and inspiring people to change their habits and move towards a more sustainable way of life. All our guests are surprised to find they can easily make changes in their lives which will impact more favourably on the planet. Once people actually see the shy native animals or orphaned joeys, they are keen to engage in working for the preservation of habitat and the reduction of human impact.

The Cape Otway Centre is upheld as a world class example of ecotourism, habitat restoration and wildlife care. We constantly strive to improve the Centre through infrastructure (for example building Hides for discreet observation of birds and animals; and creating facilities such as a Nursery for orphaned animals and a Burns Unit for bushfire victims); through research and education (such as hosting Wildlife Workshops, Sustainable Building forums, and organising Mammal Surveys) and through sharing information to ensure conservation of precious biodiversity.

~ Scattering of Ashes ~

Increasingly, people have asked for the ashes of their loved ones to be scattered here, and we have created a very special, secluded place in the bush where a service can be held commemorating the life of a much loved friend or relative. Native birds provide beautiful music, and koalas and wallabies frequent the area which is peaceful and serene. You are welcome to conduct your own memorial service, or we can help you arrange a respectful, memorable ceremony, followed by a gathering back at the Ecolodge.  We appreciate the trust involved in this most final and special of tasks and undertake the responsibility seriously. If you would like further details please contact us directly.
